Weird Homes Tour – Portland

Travel just northwest of Portland and you’ll reach the town of Clatskanie and the home of Shannon Buchanan and her collections of surprises and flea market finds. You can’t miss her home. It’s the one with the 1971 Cadillac hearse (with just one foot hanging out the back.)

Step inside and you’ll enter a small foyer with a high ceiling and four big, dark wood, closed doors. One wall is painted to be glow-in-the-dark. The space is adorned with motorcycle helmets, old portraits, and all sorts of vintage excitement. It’s like a game of Choose Your Own Adventure. Open one door and you’ll walk into a bathroom full of vintage sunglasses and scissors and dozens of paintings from floor to ceiling. The other doors open up to unicorns and skeletons, Ted Bundy hatchets, mirrors and mannequins and so much more.

Buchanan’s home was once the town school. Now it’s home to lessons about the eccentric. It’s well worth the trip to Clatskanie or, better yet, virtually through our Portland tour!
