Two words describe cookbook author and TV personality Bob Blumer and his wife Kate’s home in the Hollywood Hills: Deliciously surreal.
This kitchen in this kitchen-centric house is home to Bob’s eclectic collection of cooking gadgets and culinary kitsch that has been 32 years in the making. It is also highly functional, which is inspiring considering its tiny footprint. The rest of the house is curated with Pop Art, juxtaposed with mid-century modern furniture and a few one-of-a-kind pieces. Your creativity will be sparked as you learn the answers to some of life’s most pressing questions, such as: is it okay to have a giant metal duck—salvaged from a Parisian playground—in the center of your living room? (Yes!). Is it okay to be an adult surrounded by dolls? (Yes!). Is it okay to love Haggis chips? (Yes!) And would Charles and Ray Eames appreciate the tumbleweed that hangs as an homage to them from the bathroom ceiling? (We hope so).
The Deliciously Surreal is a feast for the eyes and the stomach. You can’t help but be inspired to combine art, cooking and whimsy in new ways.
