Berkeley holds the wonderfully whimsical and spiritual art garden, studio and home of ceramic sculptor Marcia Donahue. Throughout her lush jungle garden, you will discover treasures everywhere. Many of these treasures include Marcia’s own ceramic sculptures which often use botanical forms to blend seamlessly into the surrounding environment. You’ll also discover works that touch on the Buddhist faith, including giant malas (prayer beads) and nats. Next you will find bowling balls (a popular gift for Marcia) peppering the grounds everywhere. And you can’t miss the spectacular raised koi pond and a chicken coop called the Poultry Pagoda.
The inside of Marcia’s home is a bright and brilliant assemblage of African, and Asian cultures and found object art. Japanese obi and maneki-neko, art made out of vacuum cleaner nozzles, and a Barbie “flash mob” all live in harmony. The crown jewel is Mark Bulwinkle’s warm and mezmerizing Sun mural on Marcia’s kitchen ceiling. There, all of the eggs are served..ahem..sunny side up!
So come on out to Marcia’s art garden and home where harmony and inspiration live around every corner. You will leave touched and transformed.
