Tucked in the Hill Country, there stands the domed home and studio of artist Katy Nail and broadcast journalist Jim Swift.
Following Austin’s love of organic architecture in the 70s, this house consists of five connected concrete domes. The Art Dome’s original owners swore by the home’s healing powers to which Katy and Jim wholeheartedly agree. Katy attributes this to its comforting curved walls and feminine qualities that create an almost sacred space. Although they love their home Katy, a painter, had to confess that curved walls make it a little tough to hang her paintings.
Be sure to spend some time in their elaborate exterior garden as well. Designed with the help of Frank Meyer, it includes a wood-burning oven, art, arbor, labyrinth, and chickens. Between the house and the garden, you will be transported to another world.
