Weird Homes Tour – New Orleans

At first glance Shena Troia & George Peake’s home may not seem that “weird”, but it’s got one fascinating story.  Originally built as a guest quarters for the Masonic Lodge next door (the oldest in NOLA), their home was derelict and slated for demolition when Shena and George found it. They looked at a historic home covered in graffiti and about to fall over and saw potential.

They replaced everything right down to the foundation and studs with only the front of the home remaining original. Wanting to preserve the antiquity of the home, Shena and George sought to reuse whatever materials they could.  They used reclaimed wood from the building to construct beautiful cabinets, stairs, furniture and even a hand carved double sink for the master bath.  George did much of the work himself.

Inside, the home is filled with Shena’s collection of thrift store finds throughout the years. From big to small, Shena and George’s Salvaged Home will inspire you to breathe new life into the hidden gems surrounding you.

The Weird Homes Tour’s self-driving tours showcase unique and interesting homes in cities all across the USA.  They are highly Instagram and social media worthy and family-friendly events where photos are welcome.
