The Aqua Star

Posted in 2019 Portland Weird Homes, All Weird Homes

Have you ever paddled the Willamette River and wondered what in the world this unique floating home is all about? This Portland icon is more than a houseboat, sitting just north of the Sellwood Bridge, the Aqua Star is a floating masterpiece.  Built in 1984, current owners, Buzz and Pam Gorder (Buzz designs attention grabbing trade booths for a living) wanted a home that was a little different with plenty of curves and color and boy did they get it!

From the outside the Aqua Star can’t be missed. The home’s iconic silos and domes as well as it’s head-to-toe anodized aluminum almost make you think you’ll looking at an observatory rather than a private home.  The interior is inspiring with artistic features around every rounded corner. The polished steel walls and sculptures bring the water indoors reflecting the natural surrounding and mood, changing through the day and seasons. Eclectic 3D art sculptures specially created for the home sit throughout the house. And the 15-foot ceilings with floor-to-ceiling windows make everything feel spacious and bright.

Can’t get enough with just one visit?  The home is currently for sale through Jason Mendell of Cascade Sotheby’s International Realty.
